So Let’s get to business:

I want to give here today a recipe to a Goulash dish. Goulash is a Hungarian dish, prepared as stew or soup, including beef, vegetables and paprika.

This particular recipe, for a stew Goulash, I got from my mother. We have no Hungarian origins (to the best of my knowledge), so I have no idea where she got it. Anyway, I liked it in my childhood, but didn’t take the recipe from my mother until recently, when we ate at my brother’s. My son Hizki (who no doubt you will hear about in this blog) demanded we should get the recipe. So here it is:

Goulash

Ingredients:

2 Kg diced meat (2 Kg = 4.4 lbs). I use lamb meat. You can use other beef meat, or even red turkey meat.

2 chopped Onions

2 chopped garlic cloves

2 diced carrots

1 cup diced celery stems

1 cup ketchup

5 tablespoons worchester sauce

4 tablespoons vinegar

4 tablespoons brown sugar

2 teaspoons sweet paprika

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon dry mustard powder

4 tablespoons oil

4 tablespoons flour

Directions:

- Brown the meat, onions and garlic together.

- Add carrots and celery

- Mix well all sauce ingredients (ketchup, worchester, vinegar, brown sugar, paprika, sale and dry mustard powder) and add to the above.

- Add 3 cups boiled water

- Keep on low fire for about 90 minutes

- About 5 minutes before the end of the 90 minutes mix the flour with 1/2 cup water and add to pot.

That’s it. A yummy and easy recipe. Enjoy!
